About Fiscal Sponsorship

In keeping with our mission to build community and a culture that facilitates and rewards open collaborative science, we provide strategic consulting and fiscal sponsorship to like-minded organizations, individuals, and corporations.

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, Rapid Science sponsorship offers community initiatives without 501(c)(3) status the ability to apply for grants and accept US-based, tax-deductible donations. In the ‘light’ version of fiscal sponsorship that we offer, the sponsored entity prepares its own grant applications and manages its projects upon transfer of funds. Rapid Science offers strategic mission-based advice during the proposal stage, submits the grant application, receives and distributes the funds, and provides broad fiscal oversight and reporting — ensuring that the funders’ intended charitable purposes are met and credited, and that the grant activities are compliant with our mission and IRS regulations.

This is known as “Model C” grant-preapproved fiscal sponsorship, as opposed to the full-service “Model A” formulation in which the sponsor assumes all legal, fiduciary and administrative responsibilities including HR, payroll, control of budget, and oversight of the sponsored initiative’s employees. Rapid Science offers only Model C sponsorship, with a razor focus on strategizing and amplifying our mission to achieve more rapid, innovative, and reproducible outcomes through collaborative open research. At Rapid Science, Model C invokes Community, Connection, and Collaboration. Read more about these models of fiscal sponsorship.
